Hurrying back home, she meets the crowd from the parade.
Naomi always warns her to stay away from the parade.
“Because they are insane! All of them!”
That’s what Naomi said. She always hates those paraders as they are indirectly related to their parents’ death. Aggressive people are like fires, they hurt everyone surrounding them including themselves.
Today’s downtown paraders are still protesting against the Central Church’s decision of keeping the boundary between the uptown and downtown people. They insist that the people from two parts of the city shouldn’t live separately.
Town Zero is a city that is built in the shape of the number “zero” and it floats in the sky. The city land is equally divided into two parts - the downtown and the uptown. When citizens are born, while they are sent to the Central Church to get their earrings, they will also receive the assortment of their family and home. Some will be sent to the uptown - a prosperous and colorful place with abundant resources, and the others will be distributed to the downtown - a place that can only be associated with poverty, pandemic, and rare resources. These differences determine the dramatic gap in living between these two groups of people, causing constant conflicts between them. According to the law of Town Zero, the citizens can not change the assorting results, and sometimes they have to be separated from their biological parents and sent to another family in another city. Throughout the years, the people from downtown has formed a rebel organization dedicated to winning their rights to live in the uptown, they use the parade to arouse the church’s attention, however, their activity usually ends with violence and tragedy.
